WOOD FLOORS

We carry out wood floor sanding and restoration, anything from pine floorboards to exotic types of flooring, parquet and herringbone floors to high end solid oak flooring or specialist sports hall, dance floors and sprung wooden floors. It is a considerable advantage as a building contractor to be able to carry out this type of work in house.

We use the latest Pallmann technology (99.9% dust free) to carry out the actual sanding and quality Pallmann oils and lacquers are applied to finish the floor to suit different customer’s preferences and the likely footfall and type of usage. We offer a 2 year guarantee with our workmanship and application of products.

Our Services

Wood Floor Sanding

Oakwood treats every wood floor as if it is our own and as a result we manage each project with great care and attention to detail. We tailor our services to meet the customer needs.

We carry out sanding in both domestic and commercial premises so we are used to sanding in both smaller working areas and on larger scale projects.

It is possible to sand both solid and hard wood floors but also engineered wood floors too. Engineered wood floors cannot be sanded as many times in their life though.

We use the best equipment on the market to ensure the most consistent and smooth sanding finish.

Most of the sanding is done by the Pallmann belt sander and edger but there is a certain amount of more manual techniques involved.

Sanding a wood floor creates the wood dust that is needed to then mix with resin and apply to filling in gaps to the wooden floor.

All of our sanding technicians have been trained in the Pallmann ‘5 Steps to Sanding Wood Floors’ as this guarantees the quality of our workmanship and gives you the customer the reassurance that we are a professional sanding company.

We have 30 years of experience in the industry through our affiliation with Ultimate Floor Sanding and Pallmann.

Wood Floor Finishing Service

Once the sanding is complete it is essential that the right finish is applied to take into consideration usage and footfall, the specific type of wood, its colour and the environment. Essentially you have two options, applying a lacquer or an oil.

A lacquer is a bit like a modern day varnish and effectively sits on the top of the wood and doesn’t sink in like oil does. A lacquer finish is ideal in a room where you anticipate either high or heavy footfall or where you want a gloss or high gloss finish.

An oiled finish wood flooring provides both a surface protection and a deep penetrating protection. The oil becomes ingrained in the wood. An oiled finish is the perfect solution when you’re looking for a natural, matt looking finish for your wood floor.

At Oakwood we use a unique oil called ‘Magic Oil’ that we believe not only offers excellent protection but also looks better than any other product on the market. It brings out the natural grain colours in the wood.

The advantage of an oil is that you can carry out cleaning and maintenance yourself to enhance the floor’s natural appearance and it is possible for a professional to carry out small repairs and specific sanding of the floor to take out any unforeseen scratches or marks.

A lacquered floor can also be cleaned and maintained but scratches and marks will show up more visibly and you cannot carry out small repairs so the floor would have to be completely re-sanded at a greater expense and inconvenience.

Choosing the correct finishing products will give you a beautiful, hard-wearing and long lasting finish. The incorrect products will deliver inferior results and a shortened lifespan.

Maintenance

Always ensure that you cut to size protective pads for the underneath of all items of furniture to ensure that the floor will not be scratched or damaged. Clear up any spill or dirty mark immediately.

The yearly cleaning and maintenance costs are a very small percentage of the cost of sanding and finishing a wood floor. A complimentary Magic Oil starter pack is included for every new customer.
